Job Description

Visit commercial and residential construction sites to collect, compile, and analyze environmental samples using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy-Flame (FAAS), including air, water, soil, and all building materials, for scientific analysis to prevent chemical and biological pollutants. Analyze Air Cassettes for Fiber in the Air using a Phase Contrast Microscope (PCM) and analyze Bulk Materials for Asbestos using a Polarized Light Microscope (PLM).

Responsibilities

  • Develop plans to prevent, control, address, and monitor environmental (biological and chemical) problems.
  • Perform ongoing oversight of the remediation of biological and chemical hazards.
  • Verify the efficacy of remediation.
  • Monitor the work schedule procedures and adequately address site needs.
  • Maintain and adjust workflow to meet the turnaround schedules.
  • Perform asbestos, lead, and mold inspections and quality control asbestos analysis using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).
  • Utilize measures to improve testing procedures and the use of equipment, and validate SOP.
  • Resolve quality issues when they arise.
  • Ensure that the subcontracted laboratory maintains compliance with the policies and procedures documented in the Quality Assurance Manual and with the requirements of ISO 17025, an international standard that specifies the competence, impartiality, and consistent operation of testing and calibration laboratories.
  • Other similar professional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Requires a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Biotechnology, or equivalent, and 5 years of experience in the job offered or any occupation in which the required experience was gained. Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Biotechnology, or equivalent, and 7 years of experience in the job offered or any occupation in which the required experience was gained.

Experience to include:

  • Asbestos, lead, and mold inspections.
  • Analyses using PCM, PLM, TEM, and FAAS.
  • Work scheduling and workflows, and addressing clients’ needs.
  • Ensuring a lab is compliant with policies and procedures documented in the QA Manual and requirements as documented in the ISO 17025 standard.
  • Project monitoring.

Various worksites: relocation to project-based unanticipated worksites within the USA possible.
